Foundation Graduation

Dear Foundation community,

We would like to announce that we are having a very simple ‘graduation’ celebration next Tuesday December 17th at 9:15am. We will have a certificate to hand to each student and express our thanks and a few words about how our year has been.

We invite you to join us in the Barrbunin for a 9:15am start.

Term 4 Update

Dear Foundation community,

Term 4 is rapidly coming to a close and we want to share some highlights!

We enjoyed the pet education lesson we had with Morgan the Great Dane and his owner Coral. Morgan was extremely well behaved and docile. We learnt how to care for but also manage having cats and dogs as pets.

We have also been very excited to have our class assemblies scheduled recently. Thank you to the families who have supported the children with their preparation and we look forward to the next assembly to be run by Foundation C with Miss Clover.

Our worms have been flourishing and we have been grateful to observe their growth over time. We have all developed a good understanding of their basic needs: water, some foods and shelter. We have enjoyed learning how to discuss these observations like scientists.

Sincerely,

Dom, Rebecca and Lucy

Foundation B Assembly

Good afternoon parents and carers,

Just a quick post to announce that Foundation B will be running our first assembly this Friday at 3pm! We are all very excited.

And a request – does anyone have a child’s dog costume? Or a set of puppy ears? If yes, please let me know!

Many thanks,

Miss Rebecca

Thank you!

Hello parents and caregivers,

We would like to extend our sincere thanks for the enthusiastic assistance today at the Zoo. We had a fantastic day as ‘wild explorers.’

From Dom, Rebecca and Lucy.

Zoo Excursion Reminder

Hello parents and caregivers,

A friendly reminder that our excursion to the Melbourne Zoo is on Monday the 11th of November! Only three days away!

Please arrive at school between 8:45 am and 9:00 am. Meet in the classroom for ease and we will walk down to the buses that will be waiting outside.

Remember to not pack your child’s schoolbag, just a small bag with their snack, lunch, hat and drink bottle. They will be carrying their bag around the Zoo.

For our parent helpers, you will have groups of 3-4 children. Part of the day is all together and then you will have time to explore the Zoo with your small group. You are welcome to explore with another parent and their group if you wish.

It is going to be fantastic and we can’t wait!

From Dom, Rebecca and Lucy.

Update

Hello Foundation families,

An update about the HFW (high frequency words)/ sight words. Please find attached another link to the Oxford words, these are not coloured and the colour is NOT crucial.

Also, I have attached in case anyone is interested, a chart with 100 High Frequency Words commonly found in the texts we read, which correlate with the Oxford List. Simply, another source of information we use in our classrooms,

Oxford Words Lists:

Thanks for all your hard work with home reading,

Sincerely,

Term 4 has arrived!

Hello Foundation community,

We cannot believe that yes, Term 4 is upon us. There is much excitement brewing. We have started off with an introduction in week 1, to our new Inquiry topic of ‘Living Things.’ We have also been learning about the power of our language to influence, convince and essentially, persuade others’ thinking with valid and logical reasons. We wrote letters to Mrs Rose to persuade her to say yes to our adoption of a worm farm, in order for us to study them as scientists would, to determine their needs and more generally, of living things. Our PMP sessions were thoroughly enjoyed in the beautiful Spring weather as well.

This coming Wednesday we will meet some special visitors from the local kinder, Our Place to help them learn about school as they transition from one setting to the next in 2020. We have also started discussing with Foundation about transition to Grade 1 and will discover more about this journey over the coming term.

Bounce!

Hello all,

We wanted to thank you for your outstanding support for our Production last week. What wonderful memories we have made!

The next piece of news to share, is that Foundation will be visiting Bounce in two weeks in connection with our Inquiry learning into Health and Movement.

On Thursday September 5th, we will leave RPS at about 10:15 am, by bus to arrive at Bounce in Glen Iris for our 11 am session. We will be learning about how movement affects and enhances our health.

We are seeking helpers to join us on this day, if you are available please let us know. We have space on our bus to transport some of our helpers to and from school. These spaces may fill up however, helpers are welcome to transport themselves to and from the venue.

We will leave the venue at about 12:10 pm to arrive back at about 12:40 pm – in time to each lunch back at school. We will NOT be taking any bags, food or drink with us. Just ourselves, ready to have fun and jump!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Foundation Team,

Rebecca, Lucy and Dominique

Term 3 Update

Hi Foundation Parents,

A few things to bring to your attention:

We are no longer doing ‘Show and Share/Tell’, rather we are moving to ‘Read and Share’. Students are to bring a book/text that they feel confident reading (whole or part of) to their class. Practising the text at home is encouraged.

To everyone who attended 100 Days of Prep, we thank you for coming and to all parents, we thank you for helping your child with their costumes! They looked great and we really enjoyed the day. A PowerPoint presentation of photos from the day will be shown at this week’s Assembly (3pm Friday in the Barbunnin.)

To parent helpers, thank you for helping our students with their reading. A Term 3 roster is now outside the classrooms if you would like to volunteer. We can have more than one helper at a time. Please do not worry if you cannot make every week.

If you haven’t already brought your child’s costume for STOMP into school and had it checked by the teacher then please do so ASAP.

Can we please emphasise that we really appreciate and encourage your involvement in your child’s learning. Talking about their day and reading with them demonstrates that you value the effort they put in at school, just as much as their teachers do!

Thanks for your continued support!

Quick Update: Production & Term 3 Inquiry

Greetings Parents and Carers,

Reminding you all that we need to have your child’s costume in a named bag (preferably named clothing too!) by the end of this week/early next week.By now you should have all received inspiration sheets- these are on display outside Miss Dominique’s room for reference also.

We are discussing the concept of health, growth and change in our Inquiry this term. Would you be able to email/send in a copy of a baby photo of your child for a wall display (ie: not an original photo that we need to return)?  Our students are very keen to share their baby photos with each other and this will help them reflect on how much they have changed over the years!

Thank you all,

Rebecca, Lucy and Dominique
