100 Days of School

The day has finally arrived! On Tuesday the 1st August, the Foundation students will have been at school for 100 days and we would like to celebrate!

To count 100 days, we have been coloring in a circle of a caterpillar all year. As the students are transitioning from the caterpillar calendar, we thought it would be fun for them to dress up as butterflies if they choose.

We will be doing a variety of 100-themed activities throughout the day including using 100s and 1000s to decorate marie biscuits with buddies. If you would not like your child to make or eat a decorated biscuit, please let Tom or Katrina know prior to Tuesday.

If you would like to join us in the classroom in the morning and complete some 100-activities with your child, you are welcome to stay until 9:30.

We have made a change to returning library books so that children have more independence and are better prepared for library returns in Grade 1. Instead of putting library books in the ‘library book’ box outside the classroom, we are encouraging the children to take their books to the library before school starts. There is a ‘returns’ slot in the bench on the left as you enter the library. We would appreciate your help in getting the children familiar with this new routine. Thanks.

Take home books are now leveled and located under the children’s reading workbooks. In the mornings please assist your child to swap their books in the new location. The children should be reading these books to you with your support. Some suggestions include identifying sight words, using initial sounds and picture clues to identify the word and discussing the events of the story.

Looking forward to celebrating!

Thanks,

Katrina and Tom

Term Two Housekeeping

Hi,

Welcome back to Term Two!

Just a couple of reminders:

Starting Monday 24th July, we would like to open the classroom every morning 9.00-9.30am for any parent volunteers who can come in and give students an opportunity to read one-on-one or test and practise their sight words. Parents can bring younger siblings as long as they will sit quietly and not become a distraction to the class. Volunteers will need to have provided their Working With Children Check to the office prior to offering their time.

Last term we sent home a form from the School Nursing Program. The nurse will be coming back to collect the forms in the next fortnight so it would be great if they could all be filled in and returned as soon as possible.

We hope you enjoyed looking through your child’s portfolio during the holidays. These should now be returned to school so we can continue to add to them 🙂

The Junior House Athletics Carnival will be on the 10th August at 9am until recess and we would love some parent helpers. If you are available and interested please send an email to Tom or Katrina:
